We want to make it as easy as possible for you to get started!

Many new members tell us that joining a fitness facility can be both an exciting and intimidating experience.  The following are some of the most common questions members ask during their first month or two with us.

If you have a question not included here or want help getting started, simply ask the first staff member you see.  We are here to help you.

Do I have to check in at the front desk every time I come in?

Yes.  The Fenton Fitness & Athletic Center check-in system is very simple and only takes a few seconds.  Simply swipe your card at the front desk or print your name on the sign-in sheet, located at the front counter.  This gives us an opportunity to welcome you, plus point out anything new going on at the club.  If you have any questions or concerns, this is also a great time to get those addressed.

How do I get a locker or towel when I visit the gym?

Lockers are available on a first come, first served basis.  We recommend you bring your own lock, and ask that you remove it when leaving the club along with your personal belongings. If it is more convenient, you can rent a locker monthly for a nominal fee of $10 per month.  Most members bring their own towels.  The Club does not have a towel service, but if you forget yours, sweat towels are available at the front desk.

How do I set up an appointment for my first workout?

To help you get started on the right foot, you are entitled and encouraged to schedule a complimentary appointment with a certified personal trainer at the start of your membership.  Your trainer will set you up on your own program, tailoring the length, frequency and type of workout to your individual needs.  To schedule your workouts, stop by or call the front desk.  If you are unable to keep a scheduled appointment, please call at least 24 hours in advance to allow reasonable time to reschedule both you and the trainer.

Where is my workout card stored?

Workout cards are stored in alphabetical order in a filing cabinet right next to the front counter.  Take the card with you when you work out, then return it when you are finished.  Keeping track of your workouts will help you see your progress and assist your trainer in advising modifications to meet your goals.

How do I learn how to use the equipment?

It takes a while to understand all the pieces of equipment and how each one benefits you. If you have a question about a piece of equipment, please ask any of our certified trainers.  If the trainers are busy, please let the front desk know you have questions, then they can notify a trainer for you.  Our trainers are all educated on how to maximize your results and are always available by appointment.

When do I know it's my turn to use a piece of cardio equipment?

If you are one of those members who want a fast 30 minutes and then go home, you'll be fine.  If you're one of those that like a long hour walk on the treadmill, we suggest you come a little before or a little after the rush hour.  We prefer not to set time limits on the equipment, but we do recommend that members be considerate when it comes to setting your workout time.  If you are waiting for a specific piece, however, simply let the person currently on the machine know that you wish to go next.

Who will help me if I have a problem or suggestion?

If you have a suggestion, complaint or compliment, comment cards are available in both the men's and women's locker rooms along with a collection box.  The owners and management personally collect and address them on a regular basis.  However, if there is something that you feel is more serious, please see the manager immediately and let us know how we can help.

What do I do when I'm finished with a piece of equipment?

As a courtesy to other members, please wipe off the equipment with one of the disinfecting spray bottles and paper towels positioned around the club.  Please return all free weights to their proper places on the racks.

What should I wear?

It is always good to wear comfortable athletic shoes with good support, and tops and bottoms that are comfortable and not binding.  Your clothes should allow you to move freely.  We do, however, prefer that nothing be worn that could be viewed as offensive to our other members such as thongs and t-shirts that include profanity.

It is very important to us that you enjoy not only your first 30 days at the club, but every other day you visit us.  Many members are anxious to see results right away when they begin fitness programs.  Please be patient with yourself and your body.  Give your body a chance to adapt to your new fitness lifestyle.
